Women. Ladies. Masters of the Feminine Domain. Lend me your eyes and ears. This is how men are. This is what you’ve been preoccupied with since the first time your pigtails got yanked. This is what you need to understand about us… and God be with you.
Really. It can often come down to a simple word, and from there on, it’s impending annhilation. It’s never what you say. It’s always what you think.
Human beings have emotional reactions to the words around them. No matter the definition… no matter how unremarkable a word may seem to you… others will respond to a word emotionally – violently – simply based on how it sounds. Say this word around a kitten, and you’ll feel her claws. Say that word around a puppy, and he’ll turn pitbull on you. It can be very Jekyll and Hyde.
I’ve known someone for many years. Smart, funny, well put together … a sensible human being. Yet say the word ‘moist’ around her, and she WILL destroy you.
Another person I’ve known for years. Nice as hell, wouldn’t harm a fly. Say the word ‘booger’ around him, and you’ll suffer immediate trauma.
Myself? It’s the word ‘whatever.’ Generally, it’s only when used in the context of an argument that I’m either winning or unwilling to end, and the other party (either angry that I’ve made my point or just frustrated with me in general) just sighs with exasperation and goes “WHATEVER.”
To me, that’s like verbally going ‘over the top.” That’s like yelling “infinity” as a child. It’s a bullshit move that pisses me off and I hate that word more than I hate Inspector Gadget.
So… think about it… if men and women have those irrational responses to just a simple word… what chances do any of us really have?
Since words often get in the way, and words are never really what we mean inside, then it’s being able to tell what’s going on inside that counts. It’s the unspoken communication that counts. Women know how other women think. Same with men.
If men want to know how women might be like… I’ve heard that SEX AND THE CITY is a potential way for men to get some working knowledge.
