My brother was eight years old when he learned how to master the game STREET FIGHTER. He was able to kick our sixteen year old asses with ease – and he’d do it with the most bullshit move ever. We called it ‘the gnat move’ because it was as annoying as a freaking gnat that would buzz around your face and never leave.
The gnat move is really simple. See, when playing STREET FIGHTER, if you get backed up to the end of the screen, all you have to do is sweep the leg over and over and over and over and freaking over. And you’re dead – because you can’t get out of it – you’re trapped.
So here we are, these mature, awesome, just-learning-how-to-swear-poetically sixteen year olds getting defeated by this innocent eight year old boy – because he’d just back us into a corner and kick our shins over and over till we died. Death by shin-kicking. Seriously? You can imagine the vulgarities that spewed forth – and my brother loved it.
So yesterday… when I was feeling a little bit ‘off’… my brother sent me this clip called STREET FIGHTER LEGACY. It’s basically a live-action battle between Ryu and Ken – but man, I think it’s done super well. And it’s really kind of badass. And most importantly, there’s no #^%@&^ gnat move.
